I confess that I was worried that my Hellebores might not survive, much less flower, because of the unusually harsh winter Georgia experienced this year. These shade-loving beauties are usually perky and green all year, but after nights of temps in the single digits, they looked limp and lifeless. Nature is resilient, though, and my Hellebores are finally blooming a little later than usual.
I should have known better, because Hellebores are hardy in zones 4-8. Known as the Christmas Rose and Lenten Rose, these winter blooming flowers add some much needed color to the lackluster garden with white, pink, magenta, and purple blooms.
Now I have Hellebore fever. When I was at the nursery yesterday, I couldn't resist adding this inky purple one to my shade garden.
Hellebores and Daffodils herald the onset of Spring. I'm ready and expect my favorite season to be especially sweet this year.
