I'll bet you’re thinking this is a picture that was left over from the summer. It isn’t, though. It’s an August Beauty gardenia blooming on Thanksgiving Day!!
It’s not unusual for plants to flower out of season, especially after periods of stress, like drought or excessive heat. This summer was very hot here in Georgia, but lately we’ve enjoyed nice rain and moderate temperatures. That might be the reason the gardenia is making a heroic effort to produce fragrant double blossoms in the purest white.
I couldn’t resist picking one of the sweet-smelling flowers. Enjoying the perfume of a gardenia here at Thanksgiving is just too good to be true!!
