When I wrote about goldfinches several weeks ago, I mentioned that they often cling to salvia stalks to get the seed. Here’s the proof--a picture of one with a seed in his beak!! The goldfinches have discovered the salvia and visit several times a day. When the stalks sway in the wind, it didn’t bother them one bit. They just hold on and go for those seeds.
This time of year, lots of seeds and insects are available. I’ve noticed that birds haven’t been eating as much from the birdfeeders, except for the goldfinches. They still love their thistle seed!! But it’s probably because as late nesters, they still have a young family to feed!!
If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the pictures were staged. How do you get the most perfect pictures?
